Renewable Energy Grant

Brigit’s Garden awarded funding for renewable energy project

We here at Brigit’s Garden are very excited, as we have been awarded funding of €60,000 from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) for the installation of renewable energy devices in our Celtic Gardens! The solar, wind and other technologies will have interactive elements to enable visitors of all ages to learn about natural sources of energy in an engaging and interesting way.

The Natures Power Trail

‘This is a very exciting development and the first of its kind in the West of Ireland,’ said Jenny Beale, Director at Brigit’s Garden. ‘The Natures’ Power trail will be fun and exciting, and we hope that it will inspire people to consider renewable devices for their own homes and businesses. It will also be a fabulous resource for educating and inspiring primary and secondary school students about renewable energy.’

Partners in the Project

The project is a partnership between Brigit’s Garden, Tipperary Energy Agency, the Ryan Institute in NUI Galway and the College of Engineering and Informatics in NUI Galway. Tipperary Energy Agency will oversee the installation of the renewable technologies, and researchers and third level students from NUI Galway will help develop the interactive elements and peer education programmes with younger students. There will also be an open competition for artists to design a kinetic sculpture driven by solar panels. The Nature’s Power Trail at Brigit’s Garden is due to be opened in autumn 2014.
